Community Groups

Mission Statement

The purpose of a community group is to provide more intimate fellowship within the larger body of Core Christian Fellowship. Each small group meets on a weekly basis to pursue deep relationships with accountability and transparency while delving deeply into God's Word and seeking His truth. Community groups seek to foster spiritual growth, maturity, and leadership rooted in the gospel. Members will fellowship with one another outside of weekly meetings and work together to serve both Core as well as the surrounding community. The groups study various themes and welcome both Jesus followers and the curious.

Interested in joining a community group? Contact Kenny Yen at kyen@scu.edu.

What are Community Groups?

Core community groups seek to provide more intimate fellowship within the larger body of Core. Groups meet on a weekly basis to dig into God's Word as well as pursue intimate relationships that extend past the boundaries of weekly meetings. Members pursue accountability, discipleship, spiritual growth, and service to the larger community while staying rooted in the gospel.

What you will do with your community group:

  • Meet once a week
  • Study the Bible
  • Develop close friendships
  • Hold each other accountable
  • Encourage and support one another
  • Eat meals together
  • Hang out together outside of your normal group time
  • Serve together once per quarter (such as through a Core ministry team, at a local church, on campus, through SCCAP, etc.)

Community Group Schedule: Spring Quarter 2012

Men's Groups

Alpha Omega
Alpha Omega is a weekly gathering of men seeking to follow the example of the ultimate male role model: Jesus Christ. We gather as a community to dine, fellowship, share our lives with each other and grow in our love for what Christ has done for us and through us.

Meets Thursdays @ 6:00 pm
Location: AO house
Contact: kyen@scu.edu

Biblical Manhood
This group's main goal will be to build up godly men who desire to seek after Christ's love through fellowship and God's love. We will focus on a variety of activities such as studying the Bible, listening to sermons, watching videos, and intimate discussion.

Led by Kenny Yen and Mark Rogers
Meets Thursdays @ 7:30 pm Location: TBA
Contact: kyen@scu.edu

SCU Men
SCUM is a place where we continually challenge traditional Christian views by stripping away the baggage religion has piled onto scripture. By distilling scripture to the most basic principles and reapplying these principals to our world view, we become better equipped to engage our community in a Biblically based perspective. We will ponder such questions as: What is the proper Christian response to homosexuality? Is Jesus a Republican or a Democrat? Is wealth a blessing from God or a curse?

Led by Daryl Sid
Meets Mondays @ 8:00 pm
Location: Mission Bakery
Contact: langdonster@gmail.com

Aeon Flux
Study through different topics that often perplex the mind of Christians and non-Christians alike. What is respect? What do godly relationships look like? What is does a godly man look like?

Led by Justin Muller
Meets Thursdays @ 7:20 pm
Location: 2nd floor O'Connor
Contact: flux07@gmail.com

Bro Brunch
Openly discuss current issues facing Christians men in today's society while supporting each topic with scripture. The goal is to grow the small groups community while strengthening each member to be more steadfast in their beliefs. When men become rooted in their faith, we are better able to stand against the future gusts of debut, sin, and deception by the Devil.

Led by Joseph Hall
Meets Saturdays @ 10:30 am
Location: Benson

Women's Groups

CG's CG
Become encouraged as we study 1 Peter and are reminded that in the midst of suffering, we can live victoriously because we have a "living hope" (1 Peter 1:3).Together we will learn how to let faith change our lives, let humility strengthen our relationships, let hope shape our futures, and let service impact our world. Join this group of young women as we discover that trials in life are purposeful opportunities for our sanctification, worship, and witness to God's glory and our joy.

Led by Christi Lucas and Gabby Tracy

S3: Spring Study of Screwtape
Join us as we explore a classic satire of the human life. C.S. Lewis' comedic, but deadly serious book consists of a short collection of letters from a worldly-wise old devil to his nephew Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man. As Luther said, "The best way to drive out the devil, if he will not yield to texts of Scripture, is to jeer and flout him, for he cannot bear scorn."
